Everly Brothers: Let It Be Me

Square

This was originally released in French in 1955 as Je t’appartiens sung and composed by Gilbert Bécaud, with lyrics by Pierre Delanoë.

The English lyrics were by Manny Curtis, and contain one of the worst rhymes of all time:

Don’t take this heaven from one
If you must cling to someone

It was recorded in 1957 by actress Jill Corey and went all the way to No 57 in the UK.

The Everlys recorded it in 1960 and took it to No 7 in America and No 13 in Britain.

They also sang it at their reunion concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London on September 23, 1983.
