This was the group’s first UK No 1 single. It was released in 1965 and got to No 84 in the States. It was written for them by American Clint Ballard Jr, but at first they were not keen and gave it to another group. Then they changed their minds.

Sometimes the Hollies’ singing and harmonies are too high and shrill for my liking, but “I’m Alive” is perfect. One of their best and one of the greatest sounds of the mid-60s.
