This was written by Johnny Marks (who also wrote Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer) and recorded by Brenda Lee in 1958. I am not especially keen on it but it is notable for the fact that Lee was only 13 when she recorded it. The star-studded backing line-up included Boots Randolph on sax, Hank Garland on guitar and Floyd Cramer on piano. It was released in November 1958 and was a massive flop, selling only 5,000 copies, but by the song’s 50th anniversary in 2008, it had shifted more than 25million.
