They performed it at their unsuccessful Decca audition on January 1, 1962.

By the time they performed it on Pop Go The Beatles they had improved a lot.
It was written by Chuck Berry who released it in 1959. It reached No 37 in the States. On release in Britain in 1963, it got to No 6.
