This was the group’s first hit, released in November 1961 and reaching No 20 in the US in January 1962. It was also the first single released by Phil Spector’s Philles label. He co-wrote the song with Leroy Bates; they derived it from the gospel number There’s No Other Like My Jesus.
The Beach Boys recorded it for their 1965 album Beach Boys Party! with Brian Wilson on lead vocals. It was also released as the B-side of The Little Girl I Once Knew single, which got to No 20 in the US.
