Cracking track from his 1982 comeback album Beautiful Vision.
I struggled for ages to come up with the tune quoted by the brass section towards the end. Then M came up with March of the Siamese Children from the King and I. What a strange, almost nightmarish clip this is.
Hi Alan.
I saw Van Morrison live at a one day festival the Ingilston showground just outside Edinburgh in what I can only describe as the most eclectic line of of bands I have ever experienced.
Van the Man topped the bill but he was preceded by Talking Heads,The Chieftains went on before them. Some of the other bands I remember were The Undertones,Steel Pulse and Squeeze plus some local outfits.
The festival itself was a financial disaster and almost ruined the promoters ( Regular Music) who had been promoting bands all through the 1970’s in Edinburgh.
I enclose a link to one venue Tiffany’s where I saw many bands live, its worth a scroll through to see how lively the music scene was in Edinburgh back in the mid to late 70’s and most of it outside of the famous Edinburgh festival. One band mentioned in the link is a local favourite ‘Cado Belle’ who were fronted by Maggie Reilly who achieved immortality as the vocalist on Mike Oldfield’s Moonlight Shadow.
I left Edinburgh in 1980 and have only returned on the odd occasion but still have fond memories of the many gigs I attended plus one that stands out is having been bought a pint before a gig by the late great Johnnie Thunders ‘You can’t put your arms around a memory’ who was in the New York Dolls.
I hope you enjoy the link.
