This was written for Warwick by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. It was released in 1964 as the follow-up to Anyone Who Had a Heart https://am-records.com/2020/11/01/dionne-warwick-anyone-who-had-a-heart/ and went to No 6 in America and No 9 in Britain. It was ranked number 70 on the Rolling Stone list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Isaac Hayes recorded a 12-minute version for his 1969 album Hot Buttered Soul. It was edited to less than five minutes for single release, getting to No 30 in America.
The Stranglers recorded it in 1979, reaching No 21 in Britain. I think this is great.
