Gene Pitney: Twenty-four Hours from Tulsa

This is by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. It was Pitney’s breakthrough success in Britain, reaching No 5 early in 1964.

It was recorded by Dusty Springfield later the same year on her debut solo album, A Girl Called Dusty.

In addition to having a unique voice, Pitney was a great songwriter. Among his compositions is He’s a Rebel by the Crystals, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF7V2dSvxpo/ produced by Phil Spector, which topped the US chart in November 1962.
