Little Peggy March: I Will Follow Him

Square

Originally an instrumental by French bandleaders Franck Pourcel and Paul Mauriat, this was released by Petula Clark in 1962 as Chariot with French lyrics. It was successful in Europe but not in Britain.

Little Peggy March (born Margaret Annemarie Battavio in Pennsylvania) was 14 when she recorded I Will Follow Him with lyrics by Norman Gimbel, who also wrote Killing Me Softly with His Song. It reached No 1 in the US in April 1963, by which time March was 15, the youngest female artist to have a chart-topper in the US. However it got nowhere in Britain.
