Gerry and the Pacemakers: Pretend

Square

This was written in 1952 by Dan Belloc, Lew Douglas, Cliff Parman and Frank Levere, and was originally a hit for Nat King Cole in 1953.

I love this version by Gerry and the Pacemakers, which was on their 1963 album How Do You Like It? Gerry was a great singer who managed the tricky middle 8 with ease.

It was never a single in the UK, but for some reason it was released in Australia in 1965, and reached 17 in the chart there.
