Dave Edmunds: Born to be With You

Square

This was recorded in 1973, which is more or less the end of pop music for me, but it sounds much earlier with its Spector-like backing. It got to No 5 in Britain.

It was written by Don Robertson and first released in 1956 by the Chordettes, who went to No 5 in the US.

Another good version was by Dion as the title track of an album in 1977. It was produced by Phil Spector, but it doesn’t sound nearly as Spector-ish as the Edmunds version.
