This was written by Richard Berry who recorded it in 1955. It was based on El Loco Cha Cha performed by the Latin R&B group Ricky Rillera and the Rhythm Rockers.

It is now the world’s most recorded rock song with more than 1,600 versions. The most successful was released in 1963 by The Kingsmen, who took it to No 2 in the US (it was kept from the top spot by the Singing Num and Bobby Vinton) and 26 in Britain.
