Written by Bernie Wayne and Lee Morris, this was first recorded in 1951 by Tony Bennett, reaching No. 18 on Billboard’s chart of ‘Best Selling Pop Singles’.

The Clovers released a version in 1955 which got to No 14 on Billboard’s Rhythm & Blues Records chart of ‘Best Sellers in Stores’.

In 1959 the Statues took it to No 84 in the Hot 100.

The most successful recording was by Bobby Vinton, who topped the US charts with it in 1963, though it did not make the charts in Britain until 1990 when it was re-released after featuring in a TV advert for Nivea and got to No 2.
