I love Rod Stewart. I think he is greatly under-rated. Maybe his mistake was not dying tragically young. One of his best numbers is Reason to Believe, the brilliant song which was written and composed by Tim Hardin in 1965 for his debut album, Tim Hardin 1.
Stewart’s (much better) version appeared on his 1971 album Every Picture Tells a Story. It was the first single from the album with Maggie May as the B-side. Reason to Believe reached No 62 in America before Maggie May overtook it on its way to No 1. The two songs were a double A-side No 1 in Britain.

I’ve liked quite a lot of Rod’s stuff over the decades. A favourite of mine is his a-capella “Gasoline Alley” from the same era as “Reason To Believe”. Elkie Brooks version is great also.
