Written by Peter Udell and Gary Geld, this was first released in 1960 by the Four Voices but did not reach the charts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKGk9qg9A9k

Brian Hyland took it to No 3 in both America and Britain in 1962.

A terrible version by Gary Lewis and the Playboys got to No 19 in America in 1967.

Bobby Vinton arranged it for a 1972 release, inexplicably incorporating bongos. Despite this, it also reached No 19 in the US.

  1. I saw Brian Hyland a few years ago as part of one of those 60s package concerts… he was great. He and Peter Noone were the best on the bill, I hope to see them again. He did his hits, and quite a few other songs that were a revelation as he is quite a rocker, in a Creedence Clearwater Revival style. His group consisted of him, his wife and his son.
