This was written by John Fred (surname Gourrier) and group member Andrew Bernard as a play on the Beatles’ Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. It was released in late 1967 and in January 1968 it reached No 1 in the US and No 3 in Britain. This video is pretty terrible – looks like the vision mixer had just got a new desk and was playing about with it.
