Yet another of those songs that deceived me into thinking I would emerge from my chrysalis on June 14, 1965. Sam Cooke wrote it and it was released in 1959, going to No 28 in America and No 23 in Britain.
A far inferior cover by Craig Douglas the same year reached No 1 in Britain. Had they no taste?
Rather bizarrely, the Supremes recorded it for their 1965 album We Remember Sam Cooke.
In 1975 Dr Hook took it to No 6 in America. Either it was not released in the UK or it failed to chart here.
