Dee Dee Warwick: You’re No Good

Square

This is the original of a song that proved successful for several performers. It was written by Clint Ballard Jr and released in 1963 by Dee Dee Warwick (sister of Dionne) with production by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. It reached No 117 in America.

Later that year it was recorded by Betty Everett, who took it to No 51 in America.

In 1964 the Swinging Blue Jeans got to No 3 in Britain and No 97 in the US. This is a great video.

Linda Ronstadt topped the American chart with the song in 1974. For my money this is anodyne, formulaic and by far the least interesting version.
