This was written in 1962 by P J Proby under his real name James Marcus Smith. The first recording was by the Ribbons which reached No 81 in America in February 1963.
The Searchers (with the wonderful voice of Tony Jackson) covered it on their debut album Meet The Searchers released in July or August 1963.
The Fortunes made a video of the song for a video juke box. The real interest of this clip is the second part in which P J Proby talks about it then sings it.
