THIS was written by group members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus with their manager Stig Anderson and released in 1973, before the group’s success with Waterloo at Eurovision the following year. It reached No 1 in Sweden with Swedish lyrics. The English lyrics were written by Neil Sedaka or his co-writer Phil Cody or both, depending on what account you read. I am not sure if the English version was recorded at the same time as the Swedish one. Here it is in English:
After the Eurovision win, the track was remixed (I believe it is known as the ‘disco version’) and re-released, reaching a rather pathetic No 32 in the UK in July 1974. I think it is one of their best numbers.
