This was the follow-up to the Searchers’ 1963 debut single Sweets for My Sweet, their Drifters cover which reached No 1 in Britain. It was written by Tony Hatch, the producer of Sweets for My Sweet, and was quite honestly the nearest he could get without being accused of plagiarism. According to Wikipedia, Hatch pitched it to the group under the pseudonym Fred Nightingale as he feared they would be dismissive if they knew it was his work.
It featured the unique Tony Jackson on lead vocals, and made No 2 in the UK and No 44 in the US.
