Sam Cooke: These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You)

One of my favourite songs by one of my favourite singers. The lyrics were by Eric Maschwitz, writing under the pseudonym Holt Marvell, who was Head of Variety at the BBC, and the music was by Jack StracheyHarry Link sometimes appears as a co-writer. It was published in 1936 and has been recorded many times.

James Brown took it to No 50 in the States in 1963, but he couldn’t resist messing about with it.

Sam Cooke recorded it for his 1963 album Mr Soul.
