This terrific song was written by Eddy Arnold and Cindy Walker, and first released by Arnold in 1956.

Another version by Jerry Vale the same year was the first to make the charts, reaching No 14 in America.

Ray Charles recorded it for his 1962 album Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music. Released as a single it reached No 1 in the US and No 9 in Britain.

Here is a brilliant version by Manfred Mann, when the wonderful Paul Jones was their singer, from their 1965 album Mann Made. This would have been a dead cert as a single.

Elvis Presley performed it in the 1967 film Clambake. As a single it only made No 44 in America.

Bob Dylan performed it live on many occasions. This video is from 1989.
