Rod Stewart: Mandolin Wind

Written by the great Rod and recorded for his brilliant 1971 album Every Picture Tells a Story. It was released as the B-side of another terrific track from the album, (I Know) I’m Losing You, which reached No 24 in the States.

Here is a live performance from 1993.

The Everly Brothers did it on their 1972 album Stories We Could Tell. While I yield to no man in my admiration of the Everlys, I don’t think this bears much resemblance to the original. In fact it is pretty bad.

Earl Scruggs did a decent version on his 1977 album Strike Anywhere.
