Mozart: Ave Verum Corpus K618

Square

This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music that I know. I was fortunate enough to sing it in my school choir, and I have asked for it to be played at my funeral.

Mozart composed this motet (a vocal work in several parts) in 1791, less than six months before he died at the age of 35. It was for his friend Anton Stoll, musical director of St Stephan in Baden, and was intended to celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi two months after Easter.
